Sammy Lee Aims To Turn Youth Gold Into Senior Medal

Six months ago Sammy Lee won gold for Wales at the Commonwealth Games Youth Championships in the Bahamas.

Now he is looking to step up into the senior ranks and to do the same thing after being selected as the youngest member of a seven-strong Team Wales boxing squad for the Gold Coast in April.

The Swansea boxer first burst onto the scene in 2015 with a dazzling display at the Welsh Championships.

He then went on to win the British title and earn a place inside the top five in the world youth rankings. He underlined his talent in the Bahamas last July when he won Wales’ 13^th gold medal at the Commonwealth Youth Championships, beating Scotland’s Lewis Johnstone in the light heavyweight final.

Lauren Price will be hoping to improve on her bronze medal in 2014 when she returns for her second Games. The first Welsh woman boxer to win a medal, she has since progressed onto the GB Boxing podium squad and is aiming for Olympic glory in Tokyo in 2020.

Price is the only fighter returning four years on and she is joined by two more female boxers in Lynsey Holdaway and Rossie Eccles.
