Dave Phillips has hit the bulls-eye after being selected for the Paralympics GB archery team for Rio.

The Cwmbran marksman is part of 10-strong squad heading to Brazil this summer.

Phillips is a former member of the British junior squad who returned to the sport when he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

The 50-year-old – a member of Llantarnam Archery Club – told the South Wales Argus: “I can hardly believe that this is happening to me – it is a dream come true!

“I have only returned to archery in the last couple of years after a 30-year break and I have been enjoying my international competition since then.

“I was hugely inspired by London 2012 and my the public’s appreciation and support of disabled athletes, and I hope that the public will show us their support once again when we go out to compete this September in Rio.

“I am so proud to say I will be representing Paralympics GB on the biggest stage for disabled athletes in the world, and I can’t wait.

“I’d like to thank Wales Disability Sport and my advisor (retired Paralympian) Pippa Britton for providing me with so much support.”
