Olympic Champ Jones Adds Another Taekwondo Gold To Her Collection

Jade Jones ended an incredible year on a high after winning taekwondo World Grand Prix gold in Baku.

The Flint fighter triumphed in her first event since successfully defending her Olympic Games title in Rio in August.

Jones won the -57kg category in Azerbaijan after beating Egypt’s Hedaya Malak 7-0 in the final to prove her status as the world’s No 1.

The 23-year-old said: “After winning the Olympics I felt so much more relaxed coming into this tournament.

“People don’t realise how hard it is to come back from an Olympics and fight again.

“It can be an anti climax after the Olympics so I am really pleased to come here and get gold because I didn’t do that after London.”

Jones, who also won the event in Baku last year, saw housemate and Rio bronze medallist Bianca Walkden make it double gold in the +73kg.

She added: “It’s extra special when we both win titles because we both push each other so hard.

“It will be a happy room and we can both celebrate together.”
