Multi-Talented Andy Davies Named In GB Team For Ultra Test

Multi-talented endurance athlete Andy Davies has been selected to represent Great Britain at the IAU/ITRA Trail World Championships in June.

As well as being a hugely talented fell, trail and mountain runner, the mid-Wales based runner is equally at home on the roads.

Davies has twice represented Wales in the marathon at the Commonwealth Games and donned the Great Britain vest over the 26.2 mile distance at the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London.

Away from the roads Davies has finished second in the WMRA Long Distance Mountain Running Challenge, the Commonwealth Trail Championships and Three Peaks Fell Race.

Last year the Newtown College lecturer won individual gold in the Masters 35 category at the World Masters Mountain Running Championships, also helping the Great Britain team to the top of the podium in Slovenia.

The Stockport AC athlete has been named in the 12-strong team which will travel to Mirandha Do Corvo in Portugal for the Championships on June 8.

British Athletics Team Leader, Adrian Stott said: “The strength in depth of mountain and trail running in the UK just now is apparent in the strong men’s and women’s teams selected.

“The British team has traditionally competed well and come home with team medals from these championships. We are sure our team will again be a match to challenge the leading nations like Spain, Italy France and the USA.

“The fact it is a relatively short, but technical 45km course for this year’s ultra-trail championship, has been reflected in the selection with a mix of experienced ultra-runners and long distance fell runners. well suited to doing well in June.”
