Mica Moore’s hopes of a bobsleigh World Cup podium finish were ended in a spectacular crash in Germany.

The ex-Wales sprinter and partner Mica McNeill lost control with just a few turns remaining in the 70mph shunt in Altenberg.

The duo were visibly shaken after getting to the feet at the end of the run having been bounced around the track with McNeill being steadied as she left the ice by Team GB staff.

They had been well-placed before the incident, lying seventh after their first run and ahead of the clock in their aim for a podium spot.

But those hopes were ended as they slid across the line sideways.

McNeill tweeted: “Absolutely heartbroken from yesterday’s result but we thank you all for the messages and we will be back stronger next week.”

Double Olympic champion Kaillie Humphries secured her third World Cup win of the season for Canada, topping the podium with Phylicia George.

Their time of 1:52.62 was comfortably enough to take top spot, dominant in clocking the two fastest runs to beat Jamie Greubel Poser and Aja Evans by 0.66 seconds.

Bronze went to Anna Koehler and Annika Drazek on their home ice.
