Pilot McNeill said: “It is very exciting. It’s a brand new track and we haven’t had a lot of time here. It’s a fun track and it’s going well so far.

“We’re looking forward to carrying that into tomorrow. We stand by that we are powered by the people.

“We’d like to thank everybody who has donated to us. It has been incredible and overwhelming support.

“We are excited to read everybody’s messages today and tomorrow night.”

Germany occupied two of the top-three spots, with pilot Mariama Jamanka in gold medal position, 0.46secs ahead of the Britons.

The US sled, piloted by Elana Meyers Taylor, was in silver medal position, 0.07s behind, ahead of Wednesday’s concluding two runs.
