Makin Making Progress In Egypt As Evans Gets Set To Begin Her Quest

Joel Makin will face No 7 seed Paul Coll after reaching the third round of the El Gouna International in Egypt. The 24-year-old, who had a first round bye, came through his second round tie with local player Mazen Hesham to earn the right to face the New Zealander.

Makin triumphed 11-3, 11-5, 6-11, 11-6 in 52 minutes in the $176,000 tournament at the El Gouna Marina.

The Haverfordwest-born player has reached  career high 15 in the world and faces Coll who has also climbed to a career best of five in the rankings.

Coll came through 11-3, 11-2, 11-5 in just 23 minutes against Spain’s Borja golan.

Tesni Evas, the world No 9 from Cardiff, gets her campaign underway in the women’s event against unseeded Canadian Hollie Naughton on Saturday.

The No 10 seed Evans had a bye in the first round.
