Liam Williams Intends To Make It Grim For Karim

Wales’ two-weight British Champion Liam Williams is promising to put on a spectacular show at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday night.

The Church Village man is bidding to claim the WBC silver middleweight crown against durable Frenchman Karim Achour.

And the man they call “The Machine” has pledged to become the first man to stop Achour, who has taken the likes of former world champion David Lamieux the distance in the past.

Williams, who has 15 knockouts in his 20 professional wins, said: “David Lemieux is a devastating puncher if he can pin you down and unload but I think he’s quite limited, if I’m being honest with you.

“I think I’m going to stop this guy on Saturday. Instead of beating around the bush, I’ll just say that. I think I’ll be the first guy to get him out of there.

“If I stop him, it looks very good for me but if you know boxing, you know that can frighten champions off because they don’t want to get stopped and they don’t want to get hurt.”

The MTK Global fighter, who put on a devastating display to defend his British title with a second-round knockout of Joe Mullender back in March, added:. “I’ll keep fighting who they put in front of me whether it’s light-middleweight or middleweight.

Williams hopes that attitude will lead to even bigger fights: “I’ll force myself in mandatory positions where they have to give me my crack.

“I’d like to fight Lemieux and I’d like to challenge myself against Gennady Golovkin. People might say I’m crazy and that he’s a monster but I’d love to challenge myself against someone of that calibre.”

Williams’ latest contest will be shown live on BT Sport as part of the bill featuring the heavyweight double header of Daniel Dubois v Nathan Gorman and Joe Joyce v Bryant Jennings.
