Lewis Arrows In On Darts History

Jamie Lewis admitted he was left stunned as he booked his place in the PDC World Darts Championships semi-finals.

The 26-year-old from Cardigan is the first man to reach the last four having started out in the preliminary rounds.

Lewis whitewashed Darren Webster 5-0 at Alexandra Palace in London.

He will now face either 16-time champ Phil ‘the Power’ Taylor in the semis after he beat number three seed Gary Anderson 5-3.

Lewis said: “I still can’t believe it to be honest. I’m in the semi-finals of the World Championship.

“It’s still not really sinking in but obviously I’m so chuffed to win that game.

“I thought it was going to be a close game and go 5-4, 5-3 either way, but to come out and win that game 5-0, I’m just so chuffed.”

Lewis will bid to match Kirk Shepherd who is 2008 became the last qualifier to reach the final.

He added: “I don’t know what I’m doing to stay so calm, but I have nothing to lose now.

“If I go up there and play my own game in the semis, you never know.”

Lewis stunned second seed Peter Wright with a 4-1 win the second round before seeing off James Richardson by the same margin in the quarters.

The world No 46 sealed the first set on a double 16 finish before breaking Webster’s throw twice to take the second set.

Webster had a chance to draw level at 2-2 in the third set but missed allowing Lewis to take the set before continuing his domination in the final two sets.

He hit 14 maximum 180s in the destruction of the so-called Demolition Man.

Lewis is now guaranteed to earn at least £85,000 for two weeks’ work – more than he has banked in prize money over the last two years put together.
