Lauren Price reckons her superb bronze medal at the World Championships in India shows she deserves her place among the best fighters around.

The Newport ace came agonisingly close to beating the No 1 seed Nouchka Mireille Fontijn only losing to the Dutch woman on a split 3-2 decision.

But have added world bronze to her Commonwealth Games gold and bronze at the Europeans, Price has shown her class in the build-up to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

“I am over the moon the way I performed against the world number one and Olympic silver medallist, who was favourite to win,” said Price, who guaranteed a bronze medal after beating Poland’s Elzbieta Wojcik in the quarter-finals.

“It could have gone either way and a lot of people thought I had it, and it was on a split decision.

“In a way I am gutted I did not get the decision but on the other hand I have had the best year so far, medalling in three major tournaments.

“I have proven to myself and a lot of other people I am there with the best in the world.”
