Cardiff Devils managing director Todd Kelman has urged the team’s fanbase to remain calm and insists the team ‘aren’t going anywhere’ following the Welsh Government’s latest announcement regarding sporting fixtures.

All sporting events in Wales are to be played behind closed doors over the holiday period with no definitive return date, initially effecting Devils home games on December 27th and January 1st. Funding worth £3 million will be made for Welsh sport.

A statement released by the Devils read: “We are committed to fulfilling our home and away fixtures as per the original schedule. We will also seek the financial support promised by the Welsh Government for professional sports who are losing out on spectators over this period.

“Me and the off-ice team will be working round the clock to keep our fans informed and updated as much possible over the next few days.

“I know that many fans will be looking to get in touch directly with the club right away, but I ask that you please give us the time we need to gather and communicate the correct information to you.

“There is no need to contact us directly as we will be keeping you updated via the website, social media, and directly via email.

“We will also be dedicating the next few days to ensuring we have all the information you need regarding your season tickets, match night tickets, corporate hospitality, and everything else impacted by the recent announcement.

“As always, I will make sure we do the right thing, so please rest assured that you will be kept fully up-to-date and will receive all the information you need over the coming days.

“I want to thank you all for always sticking with us. This is simply another obstacle to overcome, but the Devils are not going anywhere.”

The rise in Covid-19 cases has already impacted the Devil’s season in the EIHL. Last week’s game against the Dundee Stars at Ice Arena Wales was cancelled less than an hour before it was due to start, after positive tests emerged in the Dundee team.

Other teams including the Nottingham Panthers and Belfast Giants have also been unable to fulfil fixtures.

The Cardiff Devils’ game tomorrow night against the Manchester Storm at Ice Arena Wales will go ahead as normal before the restrictions are applied.
