Natalie Powell has been named in Britain’s team for the World Judo Championships in Azerbaijan in September. The Irfon judoka is one of seven named in the initial selection for the championships in Baku.

The Irfon judoka is one of seven named in the initial selection for the championships in Baku.

Powell will compete in the -78kg category having won bronze at last year’s worlds in Budapest, Hungary.

Earlier his year, Wales’ Commonwealth Games champ bagged bronze at the Europeans for the third year in a row.

GB Judo’s initial team for the championships (September 20-27) includes six World and European medallists.

Beulah-born Powell, 27, is now based at the GB academy in the West Midlands as she looks to gain selection for Tokyo 2020 having competed in Rio two years ago.
