Jones Enjoys Golden Return To London

Jade Jones made it a golden double for Wales with victory in the Taekwondo World Grand Prix in London.

The Flint fighter beat world champion Ah-Reum Lee 31-14 in the -57kg final to follow-up Lauren Williams’ stunning victory 24 hours earlier.

Jones was competing in London for the first time since she won the first of her two Olympic golds in 2012.

The 24-year-old’s win over the South Korean avenged her defeat to Lee at the worlds earlier this year when she had to settle for the bronze medal.

Jones said: “I just want gold all the time so it is quite hard when you’re used to getting gold and you get silver.

“To do it in London and to beat the girl that beat me at the “World Championships, it’s nice.

“I was getting more confident through the rounds and I’ve got more competition time now and it felt amazing to feel more like myself out there.

“It’s an incredible feeling, just walking in London and seeing all the places that bring back the memories and seeing all of my family and friends in the crowd cheering me on.

“I couldn’t lose with them watching.”

Jones took time out after retaining her Olympic title in Rio last year and competed in the C4 series The Jump.

But she showed she is back on track as she begins her build-up to Tokyo 2020 when she will aim for an historic hat-trick of titles.
