Jess The Job As Granite-Hard Roberts Completes Treble

Jess Roberts made it three wins from three races in the Aberdeen round of the OVO Energy Tour Series as the British Road Race Champion continues to dominate in the women’s series. The 20-year-old from Carmarthen’s victory on the streets of the Granite city made her the first female to take three consecutive race wins since the series began in 2010.

Jess Roberts made it three wins from three races in the Aberdeen round of the OVO Energy Tour Series to set a new record.

The 20-year-old from Carmarthen’s victory on the streets of the Granite city made her the first female to take three consecutive race wins since the series began in 2010.

Roberts followed up her victory in Redditch last week and Motherwell on Tuesday to help Team Breeze take an extended lead at the top of the standings.

“It is really special,” said Roberts. “I didn’t expect to win three in a row and it’s nice to get a win that way.

“I didn’t really have a tactic coming in but I saw an opportunity to go and just tried it.

“No one had really gotten away so I didn’t think it would stick but I did. My coach on the side said the gap was going out. He keeps me posted.

“I think my form’s the best it has been. I’ve been feeling pretty strong. The crowd was so good too and they definitely helped me get across the finish line.”

The fourth round OVO Energy Tour Series takes place at the longest serving venue on the calendar, Durham, on Saturday (18 May).

Riders will tackle the cathedral city’s infamous circuit, featuring the cobbled climb of South Street, for a tenth season, with the women’s race getting underway at 17:30 and the men’s at 19:00.

Highlights of the OVO Energy Tour Series are screened on ITV4 and broadcast around the world. Action from the Aberdeen event will be shown at 18:00 on Saturday 18 May, with the programme also available on demand via the ITV Hub catch up servi
