Jeremiah Azu Smashes 100m PB To Move Second On Welsh All-Time List

Jeremiah Azu ran a sensational 10.19 secs at the European U23 Champs in Tallinn to move second on the Welsh all-time list. The Cardiff Sprint ace sliced 0.8 secs off his lifetime best set in 2019 to qualify for the final on Friday in the Estonian capital.

Jeremiah Azu ran a sensational 10.19 secs at the European U23 Champs in Tallinn to move second on the Welsh all-time list.

The Cardiff sprint ace sliced 0.08 secs off his lifetime best set in 2019 to qualify for the final on Friday in the Estonian capital.

Azu is now only behind current British Athletics chief Christian Malcolm – whose Welsh record stands at 10.11 – in the lists.

The time also meets the qualifying standard for Wales for next years Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Azu moves ahead of controversial Tim Abeyie (10.22) who competed for Wales before switching to Ghana and being hit with a drugs ban and Sam Gordon (10.25).

Fellow Cardiff AC sprint ace Gordon set his PB at a meeting in Stretford in June this year.

Azu won his semi-final comfortably from Finland’s Riku Illukka (10.26) to reach the final with the fastest time of the three heats.

The 20-year-old will be hoping to banish the bitter memories of the European U20 Champs two years ago when he pulled up with a hamstring injury with the gold medal in sight.
