Jazz Carlin has got Rio in her sights after powering to British Championship gold in Glasgow.

The Swansea star triumphed in the 200m freestyle at the Tollcross Pool in a fiercely contested final.

Carlin’s time was not fast enough to earn outright selection for this summer’s Games though would put in her line for a relay spot.

But the 25-year-old’s main events – the 400m and 800m freestyle – are still to come this week as she finally looks set to fulfil her Olympic dream.

Four years ago her hopes of competing in London were wrecked by a bout of glandular fever.

Carlin, the world 800m bronze medallist in Russia last year, said: “It’s my fourth Olympic trials.

“I came when I was 13 years old and I remember being fazed by it and seeing all the amazing swimmers qualify.

“I remember thinking I want to go to the Olympics. It’s taken me a few times and hopefully this time I can get on that team.

“I had a bit of disruption with a rib injury about six weeks ago and it wasn’t the perfect lead-up and there were times where I thought ‘Oh God what’s going to happen’ but I manage to clear that up within a couple of weeks.

“So it hasn’t been the perfect run-in but hopefully after this week it can be a really solid block of training leading into July and August time.”
