Becky James admitted she had fulfilled her Olympic dream after being named as one of five Welsh cyclists in Britain’s Olympic team.

The Abergavenny-born sprinter will be joined on the track in Rio by team pursuiters Elinor Barker, Ciara Horne and Owain Doull.

The quartet will all be making their Games bows.

Two-time Olympic track champ Geraint Thomas has been named in the road team in GB’s 26-strong squad for the Olympics in August.

James missed out in 2012 but was crowned double world champion in 2013 before suffering a two-year injury and illness hell.

But she returned to win keirin bronze at this year’s World Championships in London.

The 24-year-old said: “I’m really honoured to have been selected for my first Olympic Games, it’s something I’ve been dreaming of since I first started cycling.

“I’ve had a hard fight back from injury over the past year or so but thanks to an amazing support team at British Cycling I’m able to put all that behind me and focus on achieving my career goals.”
