Jacques Rudolph Aiming To Bow Out With A Blast For Glamorgan

Jacques Rudolph is making his mark in the Professional Cricketers’ Association Most Valuable Player Rankings in his final season of county cricket.

The 36-year-old left-hander will retire next month but he will hope to bow out with silverware having made a significant contribution to Glamorgan’s impressive start to their NatWest T20 Blast campaign.

Rudolph’s 52-ball 77 in the victory over Kent at Canterbury was his fourth score of 49 or more in six innings in T20 cricket this season.

The South African contributed 39 per cent of his side’s runs and earned himself 17 PCA MVP points towards a match haul of 19 which moved him to 34^th in the competition rankings.

Rudolph has now climbed to 30^th in the all-time points table since the PCA MVP Rankings were introduced in 2007.

Rudolph, who played for Yorkshire from 2007 to 2011 and for Surrey in 2012, has now amassed 3,023 career rankings points across all formats.

Rudolph has joined his county team-mate Graham Wagg, who is 17^th in the all-time points table, on the 3,000 points landmark. Wagg, with 3,265 points, is Glamorgan’s highest-placed player in the table although Jim Allenby, who had six seasons with Glamorgan before he joined Somerset two years ago, is fourth on the list with 4,123 points.

The PCA MVP Rankings system identifies the match-winners and key influencers of matches throughout the domestic season.

The formula takes into account conditions, quality of opposition, captaincy and strike-rates as well as runs scored and wickets taken.

Colin Ingram, Rudolph’s compatriot, is Glamorgan’s highest-placed player in both the overall and T20 rankings. The all-rounder is second behind Surrey’s former Sri Lanka batsman Kumar Sangakkara in the overall rankings with 355 points across all formats, and fourth in the NatWest T20 Blast rankings table on 110 points, 39 behind leader Wayne Madsen of Derbyshire.

Seamer Michael Hogan (83^rd) is also in the top 100 of the T20 PCA MVP with Marchant de Lange 21^st in the overall rankings on 266 points, Rudolph 55^th, Chris Cooke 62^nd and Hogan 69^th.

About the PCA MVP Rankings:

 

The PCA MVP Rankings system was introduced in 2007 and was designed by the players to identify the match-winners and key influencers of matches throughout the domestic season.

 

The formula gives full credit to those players whose performances improve their team’s chances of winning. Points are accrued for all runs scored and wickets taken, these are then adjusted within the context of the match to take into account strike rates and economy rates.

 

Runs gain more points if they are scored quickly or in low-scoring contests. Top order wickets are judged more valuable than those that fall later.
