Jacob Robinson Set To Headline St David’s Day Boxing Bonanza

Leading boxing management company MTK Global returns to Cardiff on St David’s Day for its second show in the Welsh capital.

Last September, the company staged a seven-fight show at the Vale Arena, headlined by Liam Williams, who has since gone on to British middleweight title glory against Mark Heffron.

The highlights of that debut event included Williams knocking out Gateshead’s Craig Nicholson in the second round and former WBO featherweight champion Steve Robinson’s son, Jacob, producing a spectacular fifth-round stoppage of Islington’s Jules Phillips.

MTK Global’s president Bob Yalen promises an “even bigger and better spectacle” on March 1 back at the Vale.

Yalen said: “It’s always great to bring a big night of boxing to the hotbed that is Wales, where fans always get behind their fighters with great passion.

“From Jimmy Wilde to Howard Winstone to Joe Calzaghe, the Welsh have a wonderful history of boxing heroes.

“After last year’s incredibly eventful show in Cardiff, we’re relishing the chance to keep improving our productions and return with an even bigger and better spectacle for the supporters to enjoy.

“We’ve got some hugely promising talent emerging in the likes of Jacob Robinson and Jacob Lovell, and with Liam Williams providing a beacon for all aspiring fighters in the region, Welsh boxing is set for a big year.”

Some of the best young talent in Wales will be on show on the evening. Alongside the likes of Robinson will be Swansea’s super-lightweight prospect Lovell and Maerdy’s Alex Hughes, whose 12-0 career features six knockouts.

Others already named in the line-up are Tonypandy super featherweight Rhys Edwards, and Maredudd Thomas, the welterweight from Barry who is unbeaten in his four professional fights.
