Peter Creed will face No 4 seed Alan Clyne in the quarter-finals of the Irish Open after comfortably coming through his second round test in Dublin.

The Caerphilly-born player, seeded No 6 for the event at the Fitzwilliam LTC, saw off Christopher Gordon of the USA 11-6, 11-9, 11-6 in 51 minutes.

The 32-year-old’s win booked the last eight berth against his Scottish rival who won 11-7, 11-5, 11-3 against France’s Sebastian Bonmales.

Creed, the nine-time Welsh champ, has slipped to 63 in the world from his career high of 50 in November last year but has a good chance of progressing to the last four of the $18,000 tournament.

But in the women’s event in Dublin, Wales’ Ali Loke bowed out in the second round after a 11-5, 11-9,11-4 defeat to South Africa’s No 4 seed Alexandra Fuller.
