Ioan Lloyd Back To His Junior Rally Winning Ways

Young Ioan Lloyd scored a convincing Formula 1000 Junior Rally Championship win on the Melbourne Junior Rally at the weekend to move up to fourth in the points table – just four points off second place. Having rolled his Citroen C1 last time out on the Altratech SMC Stages at Anglesey Circuit, a rapid turnaround by West Wales Rally Spares and Rick’s Bodyshop saw the car repaired in time for the next event. And their hard work was rewarded when the Llandysul teenager drove brilliantly to win comfortably at the recent round of the series, which was held at Melbourne Airfield in East Yorkshire.

Co-driven by Jonathan Jackson (who is originally from Colwyn Bay), Lloyd finished 58 seconds ahead of second placed Lewis Hooper/Sam Bilham in a Nissan Micra, while Mathew Jones/Chris Brierly were a further 1min 46secs behind in a Citroen C1.

“What an awesome day,” said Lloyd. “It was a great venue, with a lot of loose to add to the mix and I really enjoyed the challenge. It was another top class job by Jonathan on the notes, Dad and Andy Caltor on the spanners and first class catering by Mum!”
