- Glamorgan Duo Asa Tribe And Ben Kellaway Ready For Next Step Towards Test Match Cricket
Their call-up ends a 12-year wait for the county to see players represented at that level.
The pair, both 21, are among four new faces named in the Lions squad, which will shadow England’s Ashes party during their visit Down Under.
The development group will stage camps at Loughborough in October before flying to Australia for a four-match schedule, including a three-day warm-up against Ben Stokes’ Test side ahead of the first Ashes Test in Perth.
For Tribe, it caps a remarkable year in which he transformed from a fringe player to a key part of Glamorgan’s top order.
After starting the season outside the first team, he seized his opportunity and delivered 731 County Championship runs at 45.68, while also producing a golden run of form in September that pushed him into Lions contention.
In white-ball cricket, his back-to-back unbeaten hundreds in the One-Day Cup underlined his growing reputation.

Tribe has also long been a mainstay for Jersey, representing the island in ICC tournaments, but his rapid progress in the county game has now carried him into the England pathway.
Kellaway, meanwhile, has emerged as one of the brightest all-rounders in the domestic game.
The right-hander compiled 813 Championship runs at 54.20, alongside 25 wickets at 32.12, while also making telling contributions in T20 cricket.
His standout moment came against Gloucestershire when he became the youngest Glamorgan player to score a century and take five wickets in the same first-class match.
The Bridgend product has been touted as a genuine long-term international prospect, with his ambition set firmly on following in the footsteps of Simon Jones – the last Welshman to play Test cricket for England back in 2005.
The double call-up marks a landmark moment for Glamorgan, who had not seen a player in a Lions squad since 2012.
For a club that has long strived to develop local talent, seeing two homegrown players recognised together is a powerful statement of progress.
They will join a Lions squad that also features several players with Test experience, including Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley, Matthew Fisher and Josh Hull.
Leg-spinner Ahmed, 21, missed out on the senior Ashes party but will use the Lions tour to continue his development while providing back-up should England require reinforcements.
The Lions’ trip is designed to give emerging players exposure to high-intensity cricket while shadowing the full national team, offering a bridge between county cricket and the demands of the international arena.
For Tribe and Kellaway, it represents both recognition of their stellar seasons and an opportunity to showcase their ability against elite opposition.
