Gerwyn Price Happy To Get Out Of Jail On And Off The Oche After Winning ‘Grudge’ Match

Gerwyn Price staged a magnificent fight-back to take the honours on day four of the PDC Autumn Series in Germany then said the COVID-19 rules means he feels like he is in jail!.

The Iceman kept his cool to pip South Africa’s Devon Petersen by winning the last four legs to triumph 8-7.

Price is using the Autumn series to wipe away the disappointment of missing out on the Premier League play-offs in agonising fashion.

But the 35-year-old admits the schedule has been tough especially as the players are cooped up in a hotel due to the COVID-19 crisis.

“Every time I play Devon he plays out of his skin. He must have a grudge against me,” quipped Price.

“I was just hanging in there and hoping for the best. He missed a double on one of the legs and I am happy he missed.

“I wanted to get into the play-offs of the Premier League but that didn’t happen and I was using that as preparation for these.

“It’s tough, playing 12-13-14 days of Premier League then coming away and doing these.

“It’s gruelling. It feels like you’re just locked up, you’re in prison, you can’t do anything.

“You’re stuck in the hotel, playing darts for five days of the week. With the virus around it gets a bit boring.”

Price has one day left of the Autumn series before heading to Salzburg for a tournament next week which will see fans able to attend.

“I like the crowd and I dislike them, but it makes me play better whether they boo or do whatever they want to do,” added Price. “It will be nice to get back to a bit of normality.”

Petersen looked to be on a roll having whitewashed Michael van Gerwen 6-0 earlier in the week as he built-up a 7-4 lead and looked set for his maiden PDC ranking title.

But within sight of the £10,000 winner’s cheque Petersen suddenly faltered missing four match darts across the 13th and 14th legs.

Two-time Grand Slam champ Price ruthlessly made the most of his chance to win the last four legs and the title.

“I rather win with a 92 average than lose with a 104 (average) but Devon probably deserved to win that but I’m happy I won,” added Wales ace with the arrows.

“The three games I have lost previously just shows the strength in depth that the PDC has.

“All you have got to do is get over the winning line, that’s the most important thing.
