Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton triumphed in a doubles decider to book their quarter-final spot at the World Cup of Darts in Austria.

The pre-tournament favourites came through 2-1 with a 4-0 victory in the doubles over Scotland’s John Henderson and Robert Thornton.

Second-seed Wales’ reward for seeing off the defending champions – though it is a different Scottish pairing – is a last eight clash with Australia who beat Portugal 2-0.

Price raced into a 2-0 lead against Henderson after two successive legs of 12-darts in Salzburg.

The world No 3 went on to wrap-up a 4-2 victory to put Wales into the lead having averaged over 104 in the match.

Clayton then lost by the same score to Thornton to set up a double decider.

But Markham’s Price and Clayton, from Pontyberem, showed their class as they averaged over 101 to reach the quarter-finals.

Wales are bidding to win the trophy for the first time after finishing runners-up in 2010 and 2017.
