- Gavin Gwynne Says Dubai Trip No Holiday As He Aims To Return With Commonwealth Belt In His Duty Free

Treharris boxer Gavin Gwynne says his trip to Dubai will be “all about business” as he aims to return home with the vacant Commonwealth lightweight title.
Gwynne (12-2, 2 KOs) takes on undefeated Belfast boxer Sean McComb (11-0, 5 KOs) as part of the #RotundaRumble5 event on Saturday 6 February.
The fight had been due to take place on January 22 in Wakefield, but was cancelled when British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) confirmed that no bouts would take place under their jurisdiction in January due to the explosion of Covid-19 cases.
Now it goes ahead next month in the luxurious surroundings of Dubai.

Gwynne insists it doesn’t matter where the ring is, and plans on walking out as the new Commonwealth champion.
The two-time British title challenger said: “I’m very pleased the fight was re-arranged so soon as I have put so much hard work in, so a big thank you to MTK Global for sorting it in such quick time.
“It doesn’t matter where it is to be honest, I just want to fight now. This isn’t a holiday, it’s all about business. I love fighting, and this has made me even hungrier.
“The lightweight division is stacked all the way to world level, and I can’t wait to fight a big name again. I’ve beaten unbeaten fighters before and on February 6th you will see it again.”
For his part, McComb said: “Fighting in Dubai is massive. It’s an unbelievable place and to have the opportunity to fight there is surreal. It’s probably the most luxurious place I’ll have ever boxed.
“I’m very pleased that it was all re-arranged so soon. I stayed dedicated over Christmas and it has paid off. Once I got the news that the fight had been postponed from January, it could have been very easy to fall off the wagon, but I continued to train.
“Training has been perfect, and it means that my weight is perfect too. There will be a lot of eyes on me at lightweight as a lot of people will be questioning me thinking I can’t make the weight. I know I can.”
The fight kicks off a run of three cards that are taking place in Dubai over the next three months, held by D4G Promotions in association with Round 10 Boxing and MTK Global, and sponsored by Everlast and Sports Direct.
Elsewhere on next week’s bill, Lee McGregor challenges Karim Guerfi for his European bantamweight title, Mark McKeown faces Brad Daws, Pierce O’Leary takes on Irvin Magno, Hasibullah Ahmadi fights Haidari Mchanjo, and Anthony de Bruijn clashes with Isaac Nettey.
The event will be shown live in the US on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank, and worldwide on IFL TV.
