Wales’ double world champion Emma Finucane will spearhead the Great Britain Cycling Team at the 2025 UCI Track World Championships in Chile (22–26 October).

Finucane, 22, will lead a record six Welsh riders into battle on the world stage.

The Olympic gold medalist,   already one of the biggest stars in global track cycling, is chasing history as she bids for a third consecutive sprint world title.

The Carmarthen powerhouse has become the heartbeat of Britain’s women’s sprint squad.

Joining her is Rhian Edmunds, another rising Welsh sprint talent, who lit up the European Championships earlier this year with three silver medals.

The Newport-based rider now steps up for her world championships debut, eager to follow in Finucane’s world-beating footsteps.

“As we often see at this stage in an Olympic cycle, we have a great mix of world championship veterans and up and coming talent heading to Santiago,” said performance director Stephen Park.

“Many of our eight debutants competed at elite European level this year and came back with some brilliant results, so it will be interesting to see how they settle into established squads and show what they’ve got to give on the world stage.

“Within our more established riders we have four title defences taking place, including back-to-back successes in the women’s team pursuit and women’s sprint from Emma Finucane.”

Welsh Firepower Across the Line-Up

The Welsh influence in Great Britain’s 22-strong squad runs deep.

Alongside Finucane and Edmunds, Meg Barker (Cardiff), Anna Morris (Bridgend), and Jess Roberts (Carmarthen) return to defend the women’s team pursuit world title, with Josh Tarling (Aberaeron) adding road-to-track class in the men’s endurance squad.

It’s a line-up brimming with experience and ambition. Barker, Morris and Roberts form part of the powerhouse pursuit team that has claimed back-to-back world titles.

Morris, in blistering form, has already smashed two individual pursuit world records this year and looks ready to turn that dominance into gold.

Tarling’s Track Return

On the men’s side, Josh Tarling — best known for his exploits on the road — makes his elite track worlds debut.

The world time trial medallist will partner Madison ace Mark Stewart, marking a return to the boards that underlines his remarkable versatility and long-term Olympic ambitions.

Finucane and her Welsh teammates are part of a formidable Great Britain squad featuring six reigning world champions, European medallists, and debutants across both sprint and endurance events.
