Eleven-Year-Old Jenkins Is A Bobby Dazzler

Eleven-year-old Bobby Jenkins became the youngest ever winner of a monthly medal in Milford Haven golf club – after starting to play thanks to the New2Golf scheme.

His victory came just two months after he became the youngest ever competitor in the club’s monthly medal for members of all ages, winning with a gross 82 off a handicap of 18.

It is a remarkable achievement for an 11-year-old to beat all his seniors – and a great boost for the New2Golf scheme run by Wales Golf to help people get started. Bobby joined along with twin brother Jack, who also plays off 18.

“The whole Club are buzzing about Bobby’s score and victory,” said Milford Haven junior organiser, Simon Nicholas. “I can’t count the number of members who are stopping me to say what a score it was for a school child.

“Bobby and his twin brother Jack were two of the first New2Golf groups we did under Wales Golf guidance at Milford Haven, so this is a great advert for the scheme and also a huge pat on the back.

“Without the support of Wales Golf and Milford Haven golf club, young golfers like Bobby would not find these pathways through the sport to achieve and smash age group records at the club in the way he has.

“We have had a good number of their peer group either having a go or taking up the sport – so it’s like we have our own ambassadors who are inspiring a good few people.”

Wales Golf regional club development officer Stuart Finlay added, “It is great to see players coming through schemes like New2Golf and getting so much out of the game.

“The point of New2Golf is to spread the game to people who might not otherwise play, offering skills development and fun.

“Winning club competitions at the age of 11 is a little more than we expected, so we will follow Bobby’s progress with interest.”
