Dolan-Gray’s Late Strike Gives Wales Stunning Double Hockey Win Against France

Owain Dolan-Gray netted the late winner as Wales completed a superb double over France in the men’s hockey international in Cardiff.

The win followed up Thursday’s victory over the French, ranked 19 places higher in the world standings, with coach Zak Jones fielding several new caps.

Jones said: “We’re thrilled to get a second win.

“This series has been challenging for the men and we definitely have some things to work on, but to come away with two wins against a side like France is a great result.

“France played very well and we were lucky to get out of the first half at 0-0. They’ve given us a tough series, which is great for our team and makes the win that bit more special.

“I’m delighted with the result.”

The visitors had several chances in the first-half but Wales goal keeper and co-captain David Kettle made several top-class saves.

But Wales also had chances from Luke Hawker on a penalty corner and then Gareth Furlong, but both efforts went just high of the bar.

And after a spell of pressure, Cardiff & Met’s Dolan-Gray broke through the French defence to bag the 66th minute winner.

The double win was just the boost Wales were looking for before their next home international against Poland in July (1st-3rd), at the National Hockey Centre in Cardiff
