Cardiff Devils have been left without a Sunday fixture because of bad weather in Belfast!

Head coach Andrew Lord and his Devils played Nottingham Panthers away and were due to head north this morning to take on Fife Flyers in Kirkcaldy, Scotland.

The Fife team, though, are stuck in Belfast because of the weather and won’t be back in time for Sunday’s match.

Flyers tweeted: “The game tonight v @cardiffdevils will not go ahead and will be rearranged for a later date.

“Apologies for any inconvenience caused. This is due to adverse weather conditions in Belfast.”
Devils return South Wales after their 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Panthers.

Evan Moseley was hurt during the clash and laid on the ice for some time, but tweeted later that he is on the mend.

Netminder Michael Garnett made a sensational save in the final minute when the puck found Bryce Reddick in front of what looked an empty net.

Devils’ Reddick struck his shot with power and accuracy, but Canadian Garnett threw himself across goal and somehow blocked the puck with his stock.

Cardiff players threw their arms into the air claiming a goal during the ensuing scramble in front of Garnett’s net, but the officials ruled ‘no goal’ after studying replays.

Panthers’ win brought a halt to Devils’ 10-match winning run, but the Elite League leaders could have emerged winners of a fiercely contested clash.

“It was a great hockey game,” said Panthers coach Rick Strachan, a former Devils player.

“Two teams battling hard all night. It had everything and this was the way hockey should be played.

“Panthers and Devils showed Elite hockey is a great league to watch.

“When Garns (Garnett) is on he is unstoppable. Ben Bowns, too, made some great saves.”

Devils’ match at Nottingham was due to be the first of three successive away games. Now the Fife fixture has been postponed their next match is at Manchester Storm next Saturday.

Their next home tests at the Viola Arena are against Sheffield Steelers on Sunday, February 3 (6pm) and Coventry Blaze (Saturday, February 9).
