Devils Prepare For Halloween Horror Show In Scotland

Cardiff Devils will be going into a Scottish horror show in Glasgow on Wednesday.

Hosts Clan will be wearing special edition Halloween jerseys and fans are being encouraged to wear their most frightening costumes for a fancy dress competition.

Head coach Andrew Lord and his players, though, will be firmly focused on the job in hand – earning Elite League points.

Devils visit the Braehead Arena on #HockeyHalloween night, aiming to secure a ninth win in 10 League fixtures.

Former Cardiff youth chief Peter Russell is now Clan’s head coach and they are just behind Devils in the table.

Clan have named goalie Ben Bowns, defence man Gleason Fournier and forward Matt Pope as the three players to watch for in the Devils team.

‘Devils top point scorer and a man who was instrumental in their title success in 2017-18. In his first season with the, Pope scored 76 points (32+44) in 71 games in all competitions.

He leads Devils after nine games in the league with 15 points (6+9).

Clan last played Devils the 34-year-old Canadian chalked up a goal and two assists in a Cardiff win.

When the teams last met in September, the 34-year-old Canadian scored one goal and picked up two assists in the Devils win.’

Gleason Fournier

‘Now playing his fourth season in Cardiff, the 27-year-old Canadian is a genuine two-way D-man. Solid as a rock at the back and a goal threat when entering the attacking third.

A highly decorated player who has helped Devils win two League titles, three Erhardt Conference titles and a play-off championship. He was also an American League Calder Cup winner with Grand Rapid Griffins in 2013.

Fournier comes into this clash on 13 points (4+9) and a +/- stat of 10’.

Ben Bowns 

‘Quite possibly the best netminder in the Elite League. Playing his fifth season the Devils and has been instrumental in their success.

Last season he helped Devils win a league and play-offs double, while he was voted best netminder in the league and best British player.

Bowns has started this season in the same dazzling form and is currently second in the League netminder rankings with a GAA of 1.89 a SV% .930.’

Clan have their own offensive star in Brendan Connolly, a Canadian who is one of the leading goalscorers in Elite League. Connolly played for Belfast Giants last season.
