Davies Targeting Season’s Best Victory Haul in France

Chaz Davies has set his sights on a milestone World Superbikes victory in France this weekend as he looks to prolong the title battle.

The Knighton-born rider’s victory at the last round in Germany took his season’s win tally to five – equalling the best he set in 2015.

But Davies is confident of adding to that tally at a Magny-Cours track where he finished second last year in what will be the last European round of the campaign.

The 29-year-old Ducati flier said: “Last year, in Magny-Cours, we found a set-up that granted us a strong pace in the dry.

“We’ll try to build from that base and also to take advantage of the improved feeling on the bike that allowed us to get back on the top of the podium in Germany.

“The weather will be unpredictable, but surely we’ll have to lap in the rain at some point.

“To this end, we learned a lot from the Race 2 debrief at Lausitz, so overall I’m very much looking forward to head out on track.”

Davies is the only rider still in with a mathematical chance of winning the title apart from the dominant Kawasaki duo of reigning champ Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes.

But Davies, who finished runner-up last year, is 98 points behind his brother-in-law Rea while he trails former champ Sykes by 51 points.

And even with 150 points to play for in the remaining three double headers, it will take some effort for Davies to extend his title prospects beyond this weekend.
