Davies Romps To Sixth Straight Win But Misses Out On Second Place In Championship

Chaz Davies became the first World Superbike rider to bag six consecutive race wins since Troy Bayliss in 2006 as he completed the triple double in Qatar.

But it wasn’t enough for the Knighton-born ace to take the runners-up spot in the standings as champion Jonathan Rea allowed his Kawasaki team-mate to take second with the chequered flag in sight.

Davies – whose 11 wins during the season was two more than double champ Rea – missed out on the runners-up spot by just two points.

But the way he has dominated since the series returned from the summer break suggests he will be a title threat in 2017 on his Ducati.

The 29-year-old was cruising to victory in the race under the lights at Losail before it was stopped after Saeed al Sulaiti’s Pedercini Kawasaki engine blew up and dropped oil in turn one.

But Davies sped away from the start of the new 10-lap race and despite a charge from Rea into second, never looked like losing.

Sadly, there was to be no repeat of last year’s runners-up placing as Rea conceded second place to Sykes to give Kawasaki its first one-two in the championship.
