Davies Revved Up To Give His Rivals A Desert Drubbing

Chaz Davies is looking to dazzle under the Doha floodlights as he bids to snatch the runner-up in spot in the World Superbikes championship.

The Knighton-born flier has won five of the last six races and bagged back-to-back doubles as the last two rounds in France and Spain.

And though the title may have gone, Davies can still bag runner-up for the second year in a row if he can overturn a 19 points deficit to Tom Sykes in Qatar this weekend.

The Ducati rider, 29, said: “It’s the last race of the year, but in some ways I wish the season had just started, given that we obtained such good results lately.

“We were a bit late to the party, but we need to look forward.

“Last year, in Qatar, we managed to be quite competitive and took a second place, which was OK.

“We got more some horsepower now, which should help us in the long straight. Racing at night is always something different and fun.

“We need to bridge a 19-point gap from second place in the championship, and I believe there will be more riders in the mix.

“History shows anything can happen in racing, so why not? We can only do what we’ve been doing in the last few races, and then do the math.”

Davies has been all but unbeatable since returning from the summer break but will see brother-in-lat Jonathan Rea crowned champ for the second year in a row in Losail.

The Ulsterman leads his Kawasaki team-mate Sykes, who won the title in 2013, by 48 points with just 50 left to race for.

Davies, though, looks set to extend his winning run as he bids to maintain the momentum for a real crack at the title next year.

He added: “To win four races in a row is just unreal. Lately I’ve been very confident and able to push 100 percent every lap, just dancing on the bike.

“Without getting overconfident, we’ll try to make it six in a row to get second position in the championship.”
