Davies Reigns In Spain Again With Another Sizzling Superbikes Display

Chaz Davies continued his incredible form as he roared to back-to-back World Superbikes double wins in Spain.

The Powys-born flier triumphed by almost six seconds as he dominated the race in Jerez from the Kawasaki duo of Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes.

Davies has now won five of the last six races and his career best season tally of nine is equal to title pacesetter Rea.

The 29-year-old cannot catch his brother-in-law who looks certain to be crowned champ in Qatar in two weeks time.

But Davies has second-placed Sykes in his sights as he targets finishing runner-up in the championship for the second year in a row.

The Ducati rider is just 15 points behind his English rival with 50 left to race for under the floodlights at Losail.

Davies said: “To win four races in a row is just unreal.

“Lately I’ve been very confident and able to push 100 percent every lap, just dancing on the bike.

“Also, I managed to get the best start of the year and entered turn 1 just behind Sykes.

“I think he was trying to save his tyres, so I took the opportunity because I knew we could run our pace for the whole race.

“The key was to manage the grip. I was a little mindful at the start, because the hotter conditions made the track more slippery.

“But in the end I could see the gap building and then it was just a case of bringing it home.

“Without getting overconfident, we’ll try to make it six in a row to get second position in the championship.”

Rea’s second place on Sunday means the Ulsterman needs just two points in Qatar to retain the Superbikes title.
