Davies Ready To Inflict More Pain In Spain On His Rivals

Chaz Davies is relishing his return to Spain this weekend as he bids for his first World Superbikes victory of the season.

The Knighton-born rider has won three of the past four races at the Motorland Aragon track including a stunning double triumph last year and finished second in the other.

Davies is currently second in the riders’ standings 30 points behind reigning two-time champ Jonathan Rea who has won all four races so far.

“I’m looking forward to get back to racing in Europe,” said Davies, 30, who riders for the aruba.it Ducati team.

“In a way, things kind of reset at this point and the season gets in full swing.

“The first two rounds are always a bit different. Aragon is a track I’ve always had good success at, for one reason or another, but of course we still want to improve and take the next steps forward.

“This round represents an important chance for us to establish our base for the rest of the season and sort of see where we’re really at.”

Davies, runner-up to Rea in 2015 and third last year, was second to the Ulsterman in both races in Australia and the first race in Thailand.

He crashed in the second race but after a re-start forced his way to sixth spot in what became a damage limitation exercise.

But he will be keen to chalk up that first win on the Spanish track and ed Rea’s perfect start to the campaign.

Davies added: “It was disappointing to crash like that in Race 2 in Thailand; it’s strange how it unfolded but we also got lucky with the red flags.

“We’re second in the championship, but of course we want to finish in better positions.”

“Anyway, we’re in a lot better position compared with last year in terms of points collected.”
