Davies Determined To Bounce Back After Costly California Spill

Chaz Davies has vowed to bounce back in Sunday’s World Superbikes race in California after crashing out of the opener in Laguna Seca.

The Powys-born rider had just snatched the lead from Kawasaki rival Tom Sykes when his Ducati slipped from under him.

Davies had started in fourth spot on a track where he won both races last year but on lap five lost control at turn seven.

Title pacesetter Jonathan Rea went on to win the 25-lap race to extend his title lead to 71 points over Kawasaki team-mate Sykes.

And Davies is now 124 points behind the Ulsterman and though the title now looks a forlorn hope, he is looking to make amends in the second race.

The 29-year-old, who did not suffer any injuries, said: “I’m very disappointed.

“We got off a good start and we had a good pace from the very beginning.

“I didn’t feel on the limit but I felt the rear lock while on the brakes ahead of turn 7, and when it gained grip back the front loaded too much and I couldn’t do anything.

“We’ll try to bounce back, given that we have good potential.”
