- Creed Comes Through Epic Battle To Reach Irish Open Semis In Dublin
Peter Creed sent No 4 seed Alan Clyne crashing out of the Irish Open after an epic 90-minute quarter-final battle in Dublin.
The Caerphilly-born player triumphed 11-7 in the final game of his last eight tie at the Fitzwilliam LTC in the $18,000 tournament.
Creed, seeded six for the event, took the first game 11-7 before his Scottish rival responded in the second taking it 11-8.
But Creed regained the initiative winning the third 11-8 before Clyne won the fourth 11-9 to set up the decider in a marathon match.
The 32-year-old nine-time Welsh champion is now the second highest seed left in the tournament.
Creed will face No 7 seed Mahesh Mangaonkar of India with a place in the final at stage.
The Indian is ranked 67 in the world – four places below Creed.
New Zealand’s No 3 seed Campbell Grayson will face unseeded Czech player Daniel Mekbib in the other semi-final.
