Colin Ingram Plans Glamorgan Promotion After Signing New Deal

Colin Ingram has said he wants to help Glamorgan win promotion next season after signing a new two-year deal with the county.

The South African batsman – who will be 39 years old when the new contract ends – will be one of three overseas players at the club next season, alongside Australians Marnus Labuschagne and Michael Neser with two of the three players available to be selected for each match.

In the games in which he figured this year, Ingram was in excellent form, scoring 596 first-class runs in just five matches, with three centuries.

He was also Glamorgan’s leading run-scorer in the Royal London Cup with 342 runs in the competition, which included a List A career-best 155 against Kent Spitfires.

Ingram said: “I’m thrilled to have signed this new deal with Glamorgan.

“I really enjoyed my cricket this season and returning to the red-ball arena where I probably had my best ever year for the club.

“We came very close to promotion and next year I want to help us realise that goal and hopefully win the Vitality Blast, which remains one of my main ambitions in cricket.

“Wales is home and I can’t wait to play for the club for another two years and continue to work with the next generation of Welsh cricketers.”

Glamorgan director of cricket Mark Wallace said: “Colin was in extraordinary form this season and looked like he was playing better than ever.

“We know he is a brilliant white-ball player but seeing him put in those County Championship performances after a few years away from red-ball cricket was fantastic.

“We now have three world-class overseas players to pick from, giving us plenty of options heading into next year.

“He brings so much experience to the squad which our players can feed off, and it’s fantastic that our young players can also tap into his knowledge as he continues to coach on our pathway.”

Ingram is Glamorgan’s top run-scorer in T20 cricket with 2,357 runs and averages over 67 in List A for the Welsh county with eight centuries from just 38 matches.

As part of the new deal, Ingram will also continue his role in mentoring young batters and coaching on the Glamorgan pathway.
