Cofis On Course For Promotion To Welsh Premier

Caernarfon Town are on course for promotion to the JD Sports Welsh Premier League.

The Cofis are top of the Huws Gray Alliance and have been awarded the Football, Association of Wales domestic licence for 2018-19.

They are away to Ruthin Town this afternoon.

A Caernarfon club statement says: “Achieving the licence takes a lot of hard work and we thank everyone who has helped us reach such an important goal for the club.

“From the Academy to the ladies team, and all the many volunteers who have provided their expertise and support, this has been a true example of our ‘One Club’ ethos.

“It has been a long held target of ours to return to the Welsh Premier League and, with the domestic licence in place, we will be concentrating all our efforts over the course of the next three weeks into supporting manager Sean Eardley and his first team squad in their attempts to win the Cymru Alliance League and gain promotion.”

The licence is required for clubs to play in the Welsh Premier League and this is the second year in succession Caernarfon have been awarded it.

There were 11 Uefa and 17 FAW applications considered at a meeting in Cardiff and 14 of the 17 applications for a tier one licence have been successful.

The list includes Caernarfon Town, Airbus UK Broughton, Rhyl and Flint Town United of the Huws Gray Alliance plus Haverfordwest County of the Welsh Football League.

Those clubs are all eligible for promotion to the JD Welsh Premier League should they achieve it through their league position.

Nine of the current JD Welsh Premier League sides were awarded the tier one licence. All clubs who achieved the licence were also successful in gaining a Uefa Licence.

Clubs who have been refused a licence have 10 days to submit an appeal, to be heard in Cardiff on Thursday, April 26.

FAW and Uefa licence for 2018/19 Season (9 clubs): Aberystwyth Town, Bala Town, Barry Town United, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Carmarthen Town, Cefn Druids, Llandudno, Newtown, The New Saints.

FAW Tier 1 Licence for 2018/19 Season (5 clubs): Airbus UK Broughton, Caernarfon Town, Flint Town United, Haverfordwest County, Rhyl.

Refused FAW Domestic Licence: Bangor City, Connah’s Quay Nomads, Llanelli Town.

Withdrawn applications: Penybont, Porthmadog, Prestatyn Town.

A Huws Gray Cup tie between Holyhead Hotspur and Guilsfield has been postponed four times. League fixtures are have been rescheduled to enable the cup game to take place.

The second round tie between Gresford Athletic and Penrhyncoch has also been postponed twice.

Both ties are scheduled to be played this afternoon (Saturday).
