Chaz Davies Bags Second World Superbikes Runners-Up Spot In Spain

Chaz Davies may have missed out on an eighth career victory at Motorland Aragon but Wales’ World Superbike ace was happy after claiming a second runners-up spot on the Spanish track.

The Knighton-born rider saw his hopes of victory still alive on the final lap before taking the chequered flag just behind Northern Ireland’s Jonathan Rea.

Davies, who had finished fifth in Sunday’s earlier superpole race, had taken second spot on Saturday behind Aruba.it Racing Racing team-mate Scott Redding.

But Davies – still fourth in the standings 69 points behind new title pacesetter Rea – remains hopeful of claiming a first win of the season when the riders return to the Aragon track next weekend.

“I’m very happy with the way things went this weekend,” said Davies, who did not have the best of starts in Sunday’s main race.

“It is clear that the first place has another value but I am really satisfied with the work done by the team that put me in a position to be competitive since Friday.

“Unfortunately, the start was not the best and in the first laps, I had to fight with the group. Then I was able to lap with a good race pace and to fight with Jonny (Rea) until the last corner. We will get back on track with solid foundations next week end”.
