Charlotte Arter Blasts Into 2019 With Parkrun World Record In Cardiff

Charlotte Arter has made a storming start to 2019 after clocking the women’s parkrun world record.

The GB star clocked 15 minutes 50 seconds at her local event in Cardiff on Saturday.

Arter was the second runner to cross the line just one second behind Penarth’s Ben Butler-Madden.

Arter’s next goal is the Simply Health Great Stirling Cross Country on Saturday where she will be looking to maintain her impressive form over the discipline.

Arter won team silver after finishing the highest placed Brit in seventh spot at the European Cross Country Championships in Holland last month.

She had booked her place in the GB by storming to victory at the trials in Liverpool.

Arter has taken a  break from her job as a performance sport officer at Cardiff University to focus full-time on her athletics career this year.

And the move already looks to be paying off having also been boosted by increase funding from Welsh and British Athletics as well as the London Marathon.

The British 10,000m champ is aiming to run the event at this year’s World Championships in Qatar having been forced to pull out of the Europeans last summer through injury.

Arter recently outlined the reasons why she had gone full-time and her hopes for 2019 in an exclusive interview with Dai Sport’s athletics writer Owen Morgan.
