Cardiff Fire goalie Jordan Lawday is in the Great Britain team for their under-20 World Ice Hockey Championship campaign.

Teenager Lawday, from Basingstoke, joined National League Fire this season and head coach Mark Cuddihy says: “We are delighted Jordan has made team GB following a successful training camp in Sheffield.

“He has been a revelation since joining the Fire last month and we know he will do himself and the club proud representing Great Britain. We wish him and the rest of the team good luck in the coming world championships.”

Lawday, 19, was been playing in North America before returning to the UK and joining Cardiff Fire.

The 2017 World championships will be held Dumfries from Sunday, December 10 to Saturday, December 16. GB will face Estonia, Japan, Netherlands, Romania and Korea in Division Two group A.

Head coach Slava Koulikov has named his squad for next month’s U20 World Championship in Dumfries.

“We have great depth and some great prospects in the GB programme,” says Koulikov. “I am happy with my squad, but some quality players have not made the final roster.

“We have a well-balanced squad and competition for places was really fierce.”

GB begin the tournament on December 10 against Romania, followed by Estonia the following day.

Britain then play Netherlands on Wednesday, while they go head-to-head with Korea 24 hours later.

They round off the competition by facing Japan on Saturday, December 16 (All GB games face-off at 8pm).

Tickets for the tournament are now on sale and range from just £5 for a single match ticket to £25 for the full week championship pass. Up to two under-16s go in free with every ticket-purchasing adult.

Tickets are available now from the Midsteeple Box Office and Ice Bowl, Dumfries or via https://www.ticketweb.co.uk/search/?keyword=ice+bowl
