Cardiff’s Elliott Faces Welsh Open Pakistan Challenge

Welshman Elliott Morris Devred, who plays out of Cardiff Squash Club, has been drawn against Pakistan’s Syed Ali Mujtaba Shah Bokhari in the PSA Welsh Open.

Birmingham-born Morris Devred, who lives in Barry, will take on Bokhari in the first round of the $11,000 Professional Squash Association Challenger 10 tournament at Rhiwbina SRC between Tuesday, May 7 and Saturday, May 11.

The winner will play Caerphilly-born World number 63 Peter Creed, who is from the host Rhiwbina club.

This is the third annual PSA Welsh Open and the top two seeds are England’s Richie Fallows and Barcelona-born Edmon Lopez, who plays for Premier League Welsh Wizards along with Morris Devred and Creed. 

Bokhari, from Lahore, is ranked 163 in the World, while Morris Devred is at 240.

Welsh squash player Emyr Evans is seeded for the Welsh Open.

There are four Welsh players in the Welsh Open draw – Creed, Emyr Evans, Morris Devred and University of Nottingham student Owain Taylor.

There are 11 countries represented through the first round draw and the other 10 are England, Spain, France, Finland, Croatia, Spain, Italy, India, Pakistan and Germany.

The top four seeds are all ranked inside the World’s top 100 players.

European Under-19 team championships

Wales earned a win on the opening day of the European Under-19 team championships, beating Norway 2-1 

Lewis Poole and Srikar Mummidi were the winners for Wales in Prague.

Results: Wales 2, Norway 1 (Ciara Richards lost to Madeleine Hylland 16-14, 8-11, 11-6, 8-11, 6-11; Lewis Poole beat Elias Rateiczak 11-9, 11-4, 11-9; Srukar Mummidi beat Andreas Knoph 11-4, 5-11, 11-1, 11-4.

Kieran Hillman and Layna Beattie are the other players in Wales’ squad, while Andrew Evans is team coach.
