A Welshman and an Englishman led Cardiff Devils to success against Nottingham Panthers at the Viola Arena.

The Devils Brit pack were stars of the show on Sunday night with Cardiff-born Myers and Sam Duggan on target, while Yorkshireman Ben Bowns kept a shut-out.

Myers, celebrating his testimonial season, scored a goal and added an assist against his former club.

Head coach Andrew Lord and his team were edged out in Nottingham 3-2, but they hit back with a vengeance at home.

Myers and 21-year-old Duggan scored the goal and Bowns kept Panthers out.

Devils had a couple of powerplay opportunities in the first period, but Panthers penalty killing was on top form and netminder Kevin Carr made some key saves for the visitors to keep the score tied at 0-0.

After a scoreless opening period, the Devils finally broke the deadlock when Duggan opened the scoring at 25-35 with an impressive finish set up by Myers and Masi Marjamaki.

Devils had to do some penalty killing of their own midway through the period and Bowns was tested, but came up with save after save to keep a clean sheet.

With just under two minutes to play in the period, Myers doubled the Devils lead taking a nice pass from Joey Haddad to put the home side up 2-0 after 40 minutes of action.

There were two more powerplay chances in the final period for Devils, but they could not find a way to add to their lead..

Duggan picked up the man of the match award for Devils and Bowns recorded his first shutout of the season.

Next up for the Devils is MAC Budapest next Sunday at Viola Arena (6pm face-off).
