Bethan Davies and Heather Lewis will be teaming up again this weekend when they don British vests in the IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships in China.

Davies struck bronze in the women’s 20K walk at the Commonwealth Games on Gold Coast last month, while Team Wales colleague Lewis came home in a highly creditable seventh place. They are part of a five strong British team heading to Taicang for the 20k race.

The Welsh duo will be joined by England’s Gemma Bridge, who came home in fifth in Australia, while England’s Commonwealth Games silver medalist Tom Bosworth heads the men’s challenge along with Callum Wilkinson.

There will be two more Welsh women in international action for Team GB at the European 10,000m Cup at Parliament Hill, London, on 19 May.

Cardiff AAC’s Charlotte Arter, who ran at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in March, is joined by Jenny Nesbitt in the 11-strong British team.

Arter will be in Cardiff on Sunday night chasing the Welsh 5k title at the Whitchurch 5k event, while Nesbitt’s selection comes hot on the heels of her late call-up flor the Commonwealth Games, where she ran in the 10,000 metres.

With six women and six men selected, Britain will contest for team medals in both events at the European 10,000 metres Cup, which will be integrated into the A races at the Night of 10,000 PBs at Parliament Hill, which also acts as the British Championships and trial for the Berlin 2018 European Championships.

“The European 10,000m Cup is an important marker on the 2018 calendar and we are pleased to announce a full British team for what will be a great event. By selecting a full team of 12, we are showing our intent to earn the highest possible placing in both the men’s and women’s team standings,” said British Team Leader, Chris Jones.

“The team is a good mixture of those used to big events, including the European 10,000m Cup, and promising talent on the pathway to future major championships. We are encouraged by the performances so far this year and look forward to coming together as a British team to achieve our best in London.”
