Axe Makes His Mark For Cardiff As Brier Smashes PB For Swansea

Cardiff Athletics endured a difficult day overall in their British Athletics League fixture at Allianz Park in London.

The Welsh team finished last out of the eight clubs competing, leaving them second from bottom in Premiership table after two fixtures.

However, there were some excellent individual performances from the likes of Joe Reid, who won the 800m A race in 1:50.85 on Sunday.

Rowan Axe, edged a close finish to win the 1500m A race in 3:51.07, while Kyran Roberts clocked a season’s best to finish third in the B run with 3:53.94. There was also a third place in the 100m B race for Makoye Kampengele in 10.82.

There were some fine performances from Cardiff’s young athletes, including James Gold claiming PBs in the 3000m steeplechase A race and 400m hurdles B race.

Aaron Jolly ran a PB in the 400m hurdles A race and Samuel Azu earned a PB in the long jump.

There was a busy return from injury for Olympian Brett Morse, who threw himself in at the deep end by competing in the shot put and hammer along with his specialist event the discus where he finished second with 59.02m.

Brett More competed in three events on his return from injury for Cardiff.

Richard Dangerfield claimed third for Cardiff in the A string javelin with a throw of 58.57.

Swansea Harrier Joe Brier broke through the 47 secs barrier.

In Division One, Wales and Great Britain international Joe Brier broke the 47 second barrier in the 400m for the first time.

Winning maximum points for Swansea Harriers, Brier clocked a big new personal best time of 46.85, eclipsing the previous best time of 47.12 he set in Belgium last weekend.

There was also a PB in the B string 400m as under 20 athlete Steffan Dylan Jones clocked 49:07.

Over the longer distances Elliott Lawrence clocked a lifetime best time of 8:49.95 as he finished third on the 3000m B string race, while Daniel Rothwell repeated the feat as he finished third in the A string 3,000m steeplechase in a PB of 9:17.04.

Daniel Rothwell claimed a new PB for Swansea Harriers in the steeplechase.

Patrick Swan and Daniel Cork enjoyed successful days for Swansea in the throws. Cork was second in the shot put A string competition, while Swan won the B string event and finished second in the A string discus.

Swansea finished sixth on the day and now lie fourth in Division One after two fixtures.
