Charlotte Arter booked her place on Britain’s European Championships team with a stunning 10,000m personal best on Saturday.

The Cardiff AAC runner clocked 32minutes 15.71 seconds when finishing third at the European 10,000m Cup and British Championships in London.

Arter’s run secured her spot on the GB team for the championships in Berlin in August.

“The crowd was absolutely unreal to get me round and I’m really happy,” said Arter, who also picked up the British title.

“I knew I was in really good shape, training and racing has been going well, this is my first race on the track this year.

“I knew I could get the time it was just a matter of how the race was going to pan out on the day.

“This the first stage in the race calendar so now I can get back to training and look at planning for the Europeans in August.”

Arter captured the Welsh 5km title in Cardiff earlier this month and also won over 10km in Brighton to show her form.

The 26-year-old, a performance sports officer at Cardiff University, ran a controlled race and dictated the pace of the chasing pack at the Night of 10kPBs event in Highgate.

She then kicked for home in the final kilometre, shattering her personal best in the process.
