Plop refers to the popular small Honda C90 mopeds, which have gone from being just cheap commuter machines to racing ‘bikes for young aspiring Barry Sheenes.

These ‘bikes are comparatively inexpensive and parts are plentiful – and quite remarkably these humble machines can be converted into a respectable race ‘bike, reaching respectable speeds.

On the first attempt at staging the event in 2012, Trac Môn was happy to receive this new style event, and the venue is now a firm favourite with the organising club.

This year about 400 participants will be racing 100 ‘bikes, in an event which is a little under eight hours in duration. The race start will be gridded, but with such a huge field, the racers will be released in three waves. Each team has to decide when it must stop for fuel and rider changes, so there’s never a dull moment.

Each machine is fitted with a transponder that records time and laps. The outright winner is the scooter that completes the most laps before the chequered flag.

The Scarisbrick and District Armada MCC have in the region of 300 members to date and despite being based Lancashire, they have members throughout the UK who try to attend at least one of the handful of club events staged each year. The organisers are all volunteers and all proceeds are donated to local charities such as the Wales Air Ambulance.

The event will begin at 9am and will run continuously until 5pm.
