Andrew Lord is backing his Cardiff Devils players to bounce back in their Champions Hockey League campaign.

Devils were beaten 10-1 by top Swiss club HC Davos in their first match and head coach Lord said: “That’s a pretty ugly scoreline, one of the worst defeats I’ve been involved in for a long time.

“Penalties put us in trouble and conditioning was an issue as the game went on, but we’ll get better, we’ll make some changes and we’ll come back a lot stronger.

“But I’ll back my group to the moon and then some. We’ll be back, we’ll be better. We will be stronger.”

HC Davos were merciless in their approach to this CHL group fixture, led 2-0 after the first period and scored five goals without reply in the second.

Devils kept battling and were improved in the final session when Joey Martin scored their goal.

Felicien DuBois was the only player to score twice, while Nando Eggenberger, Robert Kousal, Broc Little and Andreas Ambül registered three points each.
