Andrew Hotham’s Pride In New Cardiff Devils Role

Andrew Hotham is taking great pride in his new role with Cardiff Devils.

The Canadian defenceman has is official ambassador for the partnership between Elite League Devils and LGBT Sport Cymru.

He will work closely with the organisation to further promote their message ‘Make sport Everyone’s game’.

Hotham says: “I’m delighted to take on this ambassador role.

“LGBT Sport Cymru are doing some amazing work, it’s a cause that is close to my heart and it is important to promote.”

The partnership between Devils and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender organisation will be marked at the home match against Belfast Giants on Sunday, November 26 (6pm).

That falls during Stonewalls Rainbow Laces Week and Devils players will be wearing special PRIDE jerseys on the night.

A statement by the club said: “We are committed to ensuring equality, respect and safety for all athletes, without regard to their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

“Following our support last season for the ‘You Can Play’ project, we are partnering with LGBT Sport Cymru. Their vision is to support the creation of a thriving, inclusive, sporting community across Wales, where LGBT individuals feel safe, welcome and free from discrimination.”

Devils supporters can back the cause by getting their own laces to wear at the game and during the Rainbow Laces week via CLICKING HERE.

Chair of LBGT Sport Cymru Michelle Daltry said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Cardiff Devils and a huge thank you to the club and membership for all their support.

“We are striving for a society where sexuality or gender identity is irrelevant to a person’s engagement in sport or physical activity. To have clubs like the Cardiff Devils help share this message provides such a huge opportunity for the LGBT community for which we are incredibly grateful.”

Todd Kelman, Devils general manager, talked of his pride in the partnership, saying: “Hockey is for everyone and we work hard to ensure all visitors feel welcome at Ice Arena Wales on game night.

“Last year’s ‘You Can Play’ project was a good start but, with this partnership we are laying the foundation for a long and successful partnership that promotes the key message that sport is for everyone.”

Coach Andrew Lord and his Devils play Dundee Stars this evening (Wednesday, 7.30pm), while they have two fixtures this weekend, at home against Fife Flyers on Saturday (Ice Arena Wales, 7pm) before travelling to Nottingham Panthers the next day (4pm).

Devils are fourth in Elite League and they have games in hand on leaders Manchester Storm, Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers above them.
